Our Team — Real Techs, Real Trucks, Same Crew Every Time
No subcontractors. No call-center routing. The person who answers the phone works in the same building as the person who shows up at your door.
Who Runs This Shop
On Point Garage Doors is owned and operated locally in the Kansas City metro. The owner spent years on the truck before there was an office, which is why the truck stock, dispatch rules, and pricing structure all read like they were built by someone who has actually replaced a torsion spring at 2am in January. They were.
The company started after one too many calls where a homeowner had been quoted a free written estimate for a spring job that should have is quoted with a free written estimate, or where a "national franchise" tech showed up with no parts and a hard-sell pitch for a full door replacement. The standard here is the opposite: written estimate before work, parts already on the truck, transparent pricing that does not change because you said yes too quickly.
The Crew
We run a small, full-time crew. Every tech on our roster is a W-2 employee, not a 1099 subcontractor. The difference matters: subcontractors are paid per job, so the incentive is to upsell and run. W-2 techs are paid hourly and judged on callbacks. The incentive is to do the job right the first time so they do not have to come back.
Each truck is stocked with the parts that cover ~90% of KC service calls: torsion springs in the common KC sizes (2x.250x32, 2x.262x36, 1.75x.234x29), extension springs, lift cables, drum cables, rollers (steel and nylon), photo-eye sensors, common LiftMaster and Chamberlain logic boards, weather seals, bottom seal kits, and a full hardware case. Single-trip completion is the goal on every dispatch.
Techs go through ongoing training on the latest opener systems — LiftMaster MyQ, Chamberlain B970/B1381, Genie Aladdin, smart wall consoles, battery backup units, and the wifi modules that have been added to most KC homes in the last five years. Training is on company time, not the customer's.
What We Do
- Same-day repair across the KC metro: spring replacement, cable replacement, off-track repair, opener repair and replacement, photo-eye and safety sensor service, panel replacement.
- New garage door installation: insulated and non-insulated, residential and commercial, multiple brand options.
- Commercial service: rolling steel, sectional, loading dock, fire-rated, high-speed, and aluminum storefront.
- Storm and hail damage repair: written damage assessment with photos and measurements, panel replacement, full door replacement when needed.
- Annual safety inspection: 18-point check on springs, cables, rollers, safety sensors, and opener function.
What We Do Not Do
This list matters as much as the one above. We are honest about the things we do not offer so you do not waste a call:
- We do not file insurance claims. If your garage door was damaged by hail or wind, we will write a clean damage report with photos, dent measurements, and a parts-and-labor estimate. You take that to your insurance carrier. We do not call adjusters, file paperwork, or coordinate with insurance companies on your behalf.
- We do not run financing, payment plans, or credit applications. No Synchrony, no Wisetack, no Affirm, no in-house credit. Cash, card, check at time of service. Free estimates before work — always.
- We do not subcontract. Every truck and every tech is ours. If someone shows up wearing a different uniform claiming to be us, they are not us — call dispatch immediately at (816) 315-5261.
- We do not do roof, siding, or general exterior work. Some hail-damage outfits will pitch you a full exterior package. We are a garage door specialist. If your roof is damaged too, we will recommend a separate trade.
- We do not "free upgrade" or bait-and-switch. The price you get on the phone for a standard job is the price on the invoice unless the failure on-site is materially different than what was described — in which case we stop, explain, and re-quote before doing the work.
Service Area and Dispatch Promise
Our dispatch radius covers the full Kansas City metro on both sides of the state line: Jackson, Clay, Platte, and Cass counties in Missouri; Johnson, Wyandotte, Leavenworth, and Miami counties in Kansas. Median time from call to truck at the door inside this radius — measured over the last 30 days — is roughly 2 hours 18 minutes during business hours and 3 hours 41 minutes after-hours.
"Same day" is the floor, not the ceiling. For broken springs and stuck-open doors during business hours, we routinely run trucks within 90 minutes. After-hours emergencies dispatch within the hour for safety hazards: door stuck open in winter, car trapped, security risk to a property.
Warranty
Five-year workmanship warranty on labor. Manufacturer warranty on parts (typically 1-7 years depending on the part). If something we installed fails because of how we installed it, we come back at no charge — for five years. The warranty is written on every invoice in plain English, not buried in fine print.
